Metrics details. The impact of using the Intergrowth IG dating formulae in comparison to the commonly used Robinson dating on the evaluation of biometrics and estimated fetal weight EFW has not been evaluated. Nationwide cross-sectional study of routine fetal ultrasound biometry in low-risk pregnant women whose gestational age GA had been previously assessed by a first trimester CRL measurement. We evaluated the fetal biometric measurements as well as the EFW taken later in pregnancy depending on the dating formula used.

Fetal growth assessment - decision support
Objectives: Correct assessment of gestational age and fetal growth is essential for optimal obstetric management. The objectives of this study were, first, to develop charts for ultrasound dating of pregnancy based on crown-rump length and biparietal diameter and, second, to derive reference curves for normal fetal growth based on biparietal diameter, head circumference, transverse cerebellar diameter, abdominal circumference and femur length from 10 weeks of gestational age onwards. Methods: A total of pregnant women were included for analysis in this population-based prospective cohort study. All women had repeated ultrasound assessments to examine fetal growth. Results: Charts for ultrasound dating of pregnancy, based on crown-rump length and biparietal diameter, were derived.
PLOS Medicine 18 1 : e PLOS Medicine 14 3 : e Perinatal mortality and morbidity continue to be major global health challenges strongly associated with prematurity and reduced fetal growth, an issue of further interest given the mounting evidence that fetal growth in general is linked to degrees of risk of common noncommunicable diseases in adulthood. Against this background, WHO made it a high priority to provide the present fetal growth charts for estimated fetal weight EFW and common ultrasound biometric measurements intended for worldwide use. We conducted a multinational prospective observational longitudinal study of fetal growth in low-risk singleton pregnancies of women of high or middle socioeconomic status and without known environmental constraints on fetal growth.
Ultrasound assessment of fetal size is central to modern practice of prenatal care. It facilitates accurate pregnancy dating and screening for fetal growth disorders. This article discusses evidence-based recommended methods for pregnancy dating and biometric measurements. We address some confusing terms such as fetal growth "standards" and fetal growth "references" along with explaining the differences between prescriptive and descriptive charts and between growth charts based on estimated fetal weight vs those based on birth weight.
