People cross continents to walk this annual festival , the biggest in the UK and Europe, and many Islanders take part also, such is its popularity. So if you have planned your holiday to coincide with the dates in which it takes place, be sure to register. Registration is free of charge but compulsory. This year will be the 16th anniversary of this now legendary walking festival, which has grown from 39 walks in the programme in to a staggering walks during the summer, with an additional 70 walks in October for the Walking Weekend. With over half the Island being recognised as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including over miles of well-maintained footpaths providing a fantastic variety of walks, it is no wonder that over 24, people take part.

Cowes - Yarmouth coastal path A gentle introduction to the Isle of Wight Coastal Path, with rolling landscape to follow. The trail leads you along cliff tops before descending onto the beach at Thorness bay where we're likely to see wading birds, including oyster catchers, ringed plovers and redshanks. After the Thorness Holiday Village you veer away from the coast and inland through the Newton National Nature Reserve with further bird watching opportunities on offer. The Isle of Wight Walking Festival is a walking festival which takes place annually on the Isle of Wight , around May spanning two weeks. The event has been running for more than 12 years. For the past six years the event has been sponsored by Ordnance Survey as part of a contract which ended with the event.
