They made general tinware items including tin cans with wooden jackets that were used for shipping products such as paints, varnishes and oils. The cans ranged from one gallon to ten gallons in capacity. For a time they contracted with another company, a glassworks in Poughkeepsie, New York, to make glass inserts for their tin cans, but eventually they decided to make the inserts themselves, so they constructed a small glass factory in East Buffalo to produce them. That patent had expired in and many glass bottle companies, large and small, had since jumped on the bandwagon and were making their own versions of the Mason fruit jar. After visiting a number of towns in western Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana, they eventually decided on a new factory location in the town of Muncie, Indiana, located in central Indiana northeast of Indianapolis.
